Our client, Years.com, tasked us with creating a new bag for their attendance at ‘The World’s Greatest Dog Show’ Crufts. With it being their first appearance at Crufts, it was key that the printed carrier bag ticked all the boxes to make a great first impression. Requiring a large quantity of bags on a tight deadline, printed in their brand colours, with budget also a key consideration, Years.com came to us with a few very important requirements, but little knowledge on exactly the bag they wanted. Like so many other brands have over the years, they relied on our expertise to advise on the best solution.
Years.com are a dog food brand, focussed on delivering meals for dogs that are not just healthy and nutritious, but of the quality and completeness of human food. Years.com are changing the game when it comes to dog nutrition, creating meals that they claim are helping dogs live happier, healthier and longer lives. Like many brands up and down the UK, Years.com wanted to take their product to the people through the attendance of events. What event is more appropriate for their brand than Crufts? With more than 83% of attendees at Crufts owning a dog, and 155,000 visitors over 4 days, exhibiting at Crufts was a monumental marketing opportunity for Years.com.
Years.com needed a bag that they could provide free-of-charge to the attendees of Crufts, and with such high attendance numbers, this meant the requirement for a significant quantity of bags. Further, with Crufts just over a month away, Years.com also needed their bags designed, printed and delivered quickly. Unsure of what could be achieved within their budget, they got in touch with us to get expert advice on what can be achieved within their deadline and budget. Initially favouring a printed luxury bag, it was quickly determined that at the quantity required, such a bag would be out of the budget range. As Years.com wanted a bag that was printed with their exact colour pantone, it was decided that a patch handle polythene bag was the perfect choice.
Most prints with a patch handle bag will have the logo printed onto a white bag, with the logo printed in the brand’s colour. On this occasion, Years.com opted to have their bag entirely printed in their iconic purple brand colour, similarly to their other packaging. As the patch handle polythene bag type is the go-to for flood printing, it was the perfect bag choice. As their logo is white, this was a perfect opportunity to use a reverse flood printing technique for the bag, whereby the bag was flood printed in purple and their logo was kept in the original white of the bag. This made for a beautiful-looking and striking bag with a perfect recreation of the client’s branding and logo.
Another request of the client was a complimenting pick-n-mix bag, of which the client wanted a smaller quantity to go alongside their primary carrier bag option. For an order of 1000, we were able to provide these to the client in white with their logo printed in their purple brand colour. These contrasted well with their purple bags, providing a great addition to their event collateral.
Following the client’s initial enquiry on 16th January, the order was not placed until the 13th February, leaving just two weeks to print and deliver the bags. For a flood-printed bag at over 10,000 in quantity, such a tight turnaround window is outside of our typical turnaround times. However, as the only carrier bag supplier in the UK able to achieve the tightest of delivery deadlines, we were able to have the bags printed and delivered well ahead of their event attendance.
For a quantity of bags over 10,000, we were able to achieve a warp-speed production for this client in time for their attendance at Crufts. Having the bags in their specific pantone of purple meant the typical print option was not available, and the bag had to be flood printed, which increased the complexity of the order. These bags looked great when paired with the pick-n-mix bags, which complimented the purple patch-handle bags really well.
